(Archive) Grid, the way of flowers.

A tool for daily use; Arranging flowers in an open structure.

This project was part of DDW 2022

A series of cage vases inspired by Ikebana, the art of flower arrangement, combined with a passion for making, crafts and handmade tools.

Reviving crafts to make objects for daily use.

These objects derived from one of my projects called, Time and the character of things, a project which is poetically exploring the creating of objects with homemade tools in order to get a bigger connection with its user. It is focussing on forgotten crafts, techniques, objects and tools for daily life with the aim of reviving these aspects of society and culture. In this case, cage vases, a tool for elegantly arranging flowers and grasses. The starting point and choice of material derives from the soldering of copper tubes, a technique that is being used less and less.

The pieces are all hand made using old techniques, from flattening copper rods on an anvil and turning a wooden mold on a lathe to soldering with an old soldering iron.
By spending all this time shaping the object, it gains knowledge and builds up a story of its own. Every piece is unique and rich in character. They are meant to write their own history, shaping it is only the birth, the rest of its life is yet to be discovered.
