De Voorkamer in Utrecht is an open space to meet other cultures: a place to belong, a safe place for new experiences. By facilitating our communities creativity and talent, we create a common ground to connect people from different backgrounds to develop our shared meeting space and our community.
Where cultures meet
"De Voorkamer in Utrecht is an open space to meet other cultures: a place to belong, a safe place for new experiences. By facilitating our communities creativity and talent, we create a common ground to connect people from different backgrounds to develop our shared meeting space and our community.
We bring to you a piece of De Voorkamer; two wooden inlay tables, used everyday by our community to gather and exchange. With our tables we send De Voorkamer’s spirit and stories to Eindhoven.
The series of five tables were designed in co-creation by Pim van der Mijl, Sapin Makengele, Maher Sobhea, Alaa Khweis and Shurooq Al-Qasemi. In a series of co-design workshops, personal fascinations and memories were gathered and developed into patterns that were then incorporated in the tables. The visual language of the tables triggers intimate interaction. They create a space for sharing stories, seated at personal tables.
