Paper Membranes
With Anatomy of Sound, Matthijs developed a delicate paper-moulding technique to create custom acoustic membranes of varying sizes, each tuned to different frequencies. Suspended in an open structure, the paper speaker cones form a system where sound floats freely rather than emanating from a single source. By making the materials and mechanics visible, ‘Anatomy of Sound’ challenges the abstraction of modern technology and invites us to embrace curiosity and surprise by taking apart, understanding and creating anew.
