Rachelle Hornesch is a dutch material and product designer based in Maastricht, The Netherlands. She recently graduated at the Maastricht Academy of Fine Arts and Design (MAFAD).
In her opinion, waste should not cause grand problems in modern society. The search to find alternatives to limit these, for mankind unfavourable, waste flows is for her a great source of inspiration. Our society must strive to embrace a circular economic approach and she feels the indirect obligation to find new solution to this global problem. As a designer, she thinks experimentally and innovatively by approaching hopeless situations in a creative way. Not only does she want to limit the waste flow, she also wants to motivate consumers and producers to look for new perspectives, join forces and innovate.
In 2018 she published a book about her research "2.000.000.000 precious pieces" in which the origins of the waste flow that occurs during the cultivation and sale of cut flowers is described and new material possibilities are explained.
