Heike Dobbelaere is a designer and creator from Ghent (BE). She recently obtained her master’s degree in textile design from the Ghent School of Arts.
During her studies, Dobbelaere developed a strong fascination for sustainability and re-usage. In her opinion, it is a prevalent challenge for designers to guide consumers towards more conscious consumption patterns.
With her graduation project ‘Hervergerbuiksvorm’ or ‘Re-usageform’ Dobbelaere assesses and criticizes our consumption and usage patterns in a playful way. By portraying the ‘re-usage’ theme in various ways, she aims to inspire people to consume in more creative ways. Her graphic and optimistic formal language makes her work accessible and easy for the viewer to dive into. Dobbelaere proves to be an all-round designer by successfully combining different media. Although her work has slightly deviated from designing textiles, she developed a sensitivity for composition, colour and material throughout her education.
With Hervergebruiksvorm, Heike Dobbelaere delivers a well-considered and refined work. Her project offers a very personal, fresh view on consumption and usage.
