STICHTING JONGERENHUIS EINDHOVEN IS

UNIQUE AND SAFE PLACE FOR REFUGEES

Portrait of two refugees

"Since I visit the Living Room, I see light again"

He fled from Angola seventeen years ago as a boy of thirteen. He became addicted to alcohol and drugs. And ended up in crime. His turn to hope and life happened in De Huiskamer. He has found a daily routine and activities. As a refugee he became a cook for fellow sufferers, plays drama and designs clothing. "I have become a self-confident person from a neglected boy."

He sees the other person again and gradually discovers himself

He is thirty years old and fled from Dafur after torture by the government army. Via Libya with a boat over the Mediterranean Sea he arrived in the Netherlands, traumatized. He cried a lot and was anxious. By living with us and help from mental health, he became a personality with attention for the other person. He was a farmer in Dafur. In the Living Room he discovered his talent for the carpentry profession.

Every person has the right to a decent existence. Even if you are a refugee and also if you are not formally recognized as such. That conviction forms the basis of our actions. To give shape to this, the Jongerenhuis Eindhoven foundation has two projects:

- Living room, where 50 refugees can come to rest during the day and are supported to take control again.

- Housing project, consisting of 2 student houses in which six young adult refugees live together with six Dutch students.

MELTING POT

"A place where many different people and ideas exist, often together, often mixing, in order to produce something new, something together".

With Melting Pot we create a social design event during the DDW with
