Analysis. Catalog. Design

Research and design agency STUDIO 1:1 sees potential in the many unused spaces under overpasses and bridges. Considering the changing climate, in which it will become hotter and will rain more often and heavier, these overpasses are perfect for the increasing need of shade and shelter. An area analysis provides insight into which overpass are most prone to heat stress and flooding. And in which neighborhoods there is the biggest need for public space that enhances social contact or neighborhoods where the number of play facilities is low. STUDIO 1:1 designed a catalog for green and social applications. The catalog contains various elements that can be combined into a cohesive design, turning an overpass into a place for sports, relaxation, playing, social encounters or green connections for example. It contains stylish elements that increase play facilities, or elements which cleverly deal with surpluses and/or shortages of, for example, water storage.
