a digital-only collection in which we do not strive for alternatively or surrealism, instead encourage a mentality within this virtual world of recognisability and being satisfied with who you are. Redefining and celebrating the normal and authentic.

Digital identity within the metaverse

Within the Metaverse we create our own virtual identity, who will we be in a world where we can be anything? Talking about what the promise of the Metaverse means is similar to the conversations we had 25 years ago about what the Internet meant. The foundations of new forms of communication were laid, but no one knew what reality would look like. In the early days of the internet, billions of people went online for the first time, creating new anonymous identities. Today, that's a different story, as the internet became a bigger part of our everyday lives, we gave up anonymity and also the desire to mask our real identity. Online activities are no longer separable from our real lives but an integral part of it and I expect this to happen with the Metaverse as well. When digital and physical worlds are becoming more and more connected, history will repeat itself. The two worlds will largely imitate each other and will flow seamlessly into each other.

Digital Doppelgänger

If our IRL (in real life) and URL are indistinguishable, who will we be if we can be anything? Ourselves. I believe in a digital future where we are represented much more accurately. Where the Metaverse now feels more like a game to transform ourselves, I see more potential in a future where this will turn into creating our authentic digital doppelganger. As a designer I want to represent this vision within the metaverse and with this collection I am taking the first steps towards this goal, a digital-only collection in which we encourage a mentality of recognizability and being satisfied with who you are. Digital doubles is my expectation of the Metaverse.

About Tanita de Waal

Digital Doubles is my expectation of the Metaverse, a digital collection in which we do not strive for alternative or surrealism, but instead encourage a mentality within this virtual world of recognisability and being satisfied with who you are. A future where we'll be creating our digital double.
