The Eindhoven Project is conceived from discarded objects regionally collected in the city of Eindhoven. Comprehensive research and on site foraging expeditions result in a collection of pieces directly influenced by the location and regional waste streams; a process termed, place-based design.

Place-Based Design

Developing pieces from foraged materials and discarded objects, Lauren Goodman spotlight’s under-represented models of production and undervalued material resources to make sculptural furniture works. Working with waste is the bedrock of her design ethos espoused through practice and pedagogical activities rooted in alternative material sourcing. The work includes research into land and labour histories, local communities and Indigenous stewardship. Resulting in pieces directly influenced by the location and regional waste streams. Goodman’s place-based design has been applied in different locations throughout the US including Providence, RI (Providence Project) while she was in Grad School at the Rhode Island School of Design and in Monson, Maine (Monson, Project) as part of The Monson Artist Residency. Goodman will spend the month of October in Eindhoven to forage and create new works based on the local detritus. The Eindhoven Project will be produced in the Netherlands in the weeks leading up to Dutch Design Week and will be presented as part of the collective exhibition No Time For High Fives.
