Felt Like

An experimental approach to an unknown material

PET Felt not only has the property of reducing surrounding noise, the material can contribute much more than that. As an imitation of felt, the material is soft and flexible. However, since it is 100% plastic, made of a minimum of 60% recycled PET, it still has all the characteristics of plastic-based materials. From the designers' eyes, there will remain numerous potentials for sparking creativity by the materiality of the PET Felt. Upon conducting the hands-on research, we deconstruct, reconstruct, or even sometimes embrace mistakes and enjoy serendipity. By doing so, it enables us to transform the material into something new or to highlight the certain characteristics of the material, aesthetically or functionally.

What it FELT LIKE to us

We as a class are proud of our differences in style and working methods. In this exhibition we want to use this strength to show the endless possibilities and applications of In-Zee’s PET Felt. At the beginning of the school year, we were given this, for us, unknown material. It was up to us to research the material at its current state, but also the future possibilities. While all 31 students were given the same assignment, and sometimes even using the same machines, no outcome of the experiments are the same. At the presentation ‘Felt Like’ we display everyone’s individual approach, style and vision.
