The kaffa collection is the result of a research in organic waste streams to turn it into biodesign. The collection is inspired by the Ethiopian coffee ceremony and how coffee connects people. The dark blend of coffee grounds with unique textures reminds on of dried earth.

Coffee based design - the kaffa collection

Organic waste as raw material What we consider waste has large potential as raw material for biobased design. By using the coffee grounds bio-composite in design, the kaffa collection spreads visual awareness about the possibilities that lie in front of us with waste streams. The newly created material remains biodegradable. Social design Together with Buro Kade and Weener XL, the L°1 and L°2 lamps where created as part of a research for project 'geen afval, geen uitval'. These handmade objects are the result of combining local waste streams with the people who are distanced from regular labor. Ecological and social impact is created.
