‘Traces of nature’ continues the principles of the first collection ‘contemplation//rest//nurture’. The organic materials contrast with the industrial metals, reinforcing one another’s qualities. By juxtaposing these mediums the designer hopes to rekindle the lost connections we have with nature.

Traces of nature

The second collection by verstrepen.studio, 'Traces of nature', develops his design ideology further by experimenting with the contrasts of man-made materials and natural forms. He has researched the imperfections both mediums offer, and through his latest work he presents a harmonious design of disparities. He has developed and designed this group of objects using a variety of mediums, including pine & ash wood (sustainably and locally culled by forest management), aluminium steel, natural wax and Belgian schist stone. The organic matters are heavily textural and offer a sensory experience to both the viewer and user. This is especially evident when displayed against the smooth and seemingly perfect manufactured metals. The designs offer a 'trace of nature' , where the imperfections are highlighted and celebrated as part of everyday life, and then carefully crafted into beautiful objects of interest. Verstrepen's designs present the opportunity to rekindle the lost connections we have with nature through his carefully crafted pieces.
