Unrestrained Playful Animation

The Studio

Job, Joris & Marieke, the name of the studio is simple and straight to the point. And their animations? Maybe you can say the same, topped with a massive dose of playful creativity. When the three met during their studies at Design Academy Eindhoven they discovered their mutual love of telling stories. However, they also realized that Product Design was not the right discipline to carry their stories. Luckily there was the world of animation. Because they are not traditional animators, they can break with tradition. This resonates with their unrestrained and playful view on animation.

The Animations

The first rule of animation: only animate what you can see. Luckily Job, Joris and Marieke broke with this tradition, otherwise they would have never made ‘Otto’, the tender short film about an imaginary friend that connects strangers. Or, in ‘A Single Life’ they tell a multidimensional story in which they skip trough a lifetime in just two minutes and seventeen seconds. This short film was well received and was nominated for an Oscar. And that’s not all, around the world Job, Joris & Marieke are celebrated for their tragicomic and absurd stories, full of characters and designed in their iconic and simple style. Over the years they have received multiple nominations and they have won an International Emmy Kids Award for their film ‘Kop Op’ (Heads Together) in 2017. In 2018 ‘A Double Life’ was nominated for a Golden Calf and they held their first grand solo-exhibition ‘A Triple Life’ in the Kunsthal in Rotterdam.
