Longing for simplicity

Many people are homesick for real products made with care and attention. Towards the fundamental, pure and unique instead of the smooth, sterile and interchangeable. At DK&VH we want to go back to basics. To well-made, understandable products that warm us, cook with, and relieve us. That desire for simplicity has nothing to do with nostalgia. The things we make flow directly from who we are. It's the way we've always looked at things and the world. No shiny gadgets or high-tech exterior for us. We prefer to spend our time on projects and products that are close to ourselves and the user.

The smallest screw

Our designs are practical, friendly and sympathetic. But the message is serious. With quality and experience as a sustainable core, you curb the need to always want something new. Ideally, they are tools to experience reality differently, and perhaps even to live differently or view the world differently. As designers and makers, we pay attention to all links within the production chain. We initially build prototypes ourselves, then we work with specialized companies that produce on a small scale. Always committed to delivering a perfect product. And you can see that down to the smallest detail in the end result. How we create a corner in a planter is not dictated by an aesthetic choice, but by the most ingenious, practical decision. If something is practically correct and can be made, it will automatically become beautiful. A designer must pay attention to the details, to the smallest screw and the optimal finish. At DK&VH we believe in straightforward design, without frills or affectation. Nothing too much. But also nothing too little.

For sale from the makers

For us, in addition to the front, the back of the design and the manufacturing industry also count. Call it slow design, in which the challenge remains feasible and manageable for everyone. We do not sell our products in store. That's no coincidence. We like to keep the process clear and personal. That is why we attach importance to Dutch manufacture, produced without the intervention of low-wage countries and irresponsible transport movements. We believe in small-scale, locally produced series. This way of working is difficult to combine with a distribution system via the store channel. That is why we are committed to a different way of producing and delivering. Small-scale, personal and without intermediaries.
