Plant Pixel

How can nature inspire climate-adaptive designs?

When designed well, green walls enhance sustainability and climate adaptability. The application of green walls in urban areas extends benefits to multiple aspects of urban functionality. These advantages include promoting urban biodiversity, mitigating air pollution, enhancing aesthetics, regulating temperature, reducing stress and attenuating noise levels.

Nature inspired prototype

Nature's inspiration has allowed for progress in both biology and engineering, leading to innovative designs. Our project, the “Plant Pixel,” embodies this concept. In this project, we created the “Plant Pixel,” a nature-inspired green wall. Inspired by the morphology of steep rock walls. The Plant Pixel is a modular, low-embodied carbon and cost-effective prototype developed within a circular economy framework. The selected materials, substrate, and fixing system lowered the costs and the GFS prototype’s embodied carbon compared to other GFS. The prototype provides lower summer temperatures, improving outdoor thermal comfort. This design provides a sustainable solution for climate adaptation and urban restoration. Hopefully encouraging designers to integrate nature-inspired green walls for a sustainable future.
