Everything in its place
Everything in its place
Peter Barens
When does something become a cabinet? Is it its function, or is the suggestion of its function simply enough? Everything in its place is a series of objects that make us think about the things we like to keep, without them being present.

Everything in its place

We organise our belongings to give them a place in our homes and in our lives.
We put books in one compartment, photographs in another, and our sunglasses in a drawer.
These cabinets have the structure of that system, but none of the contents.
They are empty frameworks, A cabinet reduced to its silhouette.

It looks like a place for many things, but leaves almost no room for anything.
Perhaps a cabinet doesn't need to contain anything to remind us of the things we like to keep.

About Peter Barens

My name is Peter Barens and I am a designer and a maker. I see making not only as a means to an end, but also as a way of understanding the world around me. Through my work, I explore how value is constructed through materials, production methods, surfaces and social constructs.
