Trans Rage Machine (2026) is an interactive installation which guides visitors to realities that transgender individuals face when accessing gender affirming healthcare in the Netherlands.

The Game of Trans Healthcare

Trans Rage Machine is the gender dysphoria diagnostic process, a mandatory process of legal and medical transition, dressed up as self-critiqueing arcade game. It seeks to address the failures of the transgender healthcare system and the frustration of gatekeeping and waiting lists in combination with the transgender experience as a whole.

Authority figures masquerading as saviors “protecting us from ourselves”, impose arbitrary requirements on our experiences and put up hoops for us to jump through before we can get on with our lives. Stripped of our autonomy, we must play according to the rules of the game if we hope to get anywhere with our medical transition. Play the game, if you dare.

The project was previously on display at the 'The past lingers, the present haunts' exhibition (June 2026) at Landhuis Oud Amelisweerd.
