Archiving and Activating — 12 Years of Design Academy Eindhoven Projects for Veenhuizen
COLLABORATING
From 2013 to 2026, the Province of Drenthe, Municipality of Noordenveld, Design Academy Eindhoven, PI Veenhuizen and KETTER&Co worked together with the National Prison Museum, Drents Archive and De Nieuwe Rentmeester on the Design Deal Veenhuizen. The ambition was to give Veenhuizen a creative impulse and let its rich past inspire its future.
RESEARCHING
Design Academy Eindhoven students and alumni spent extended periods in Veenhuizen, exploring the history, landscape and everyday life of this former Colony of Benevolence and still-active prison village, together with residents and local partners. This resulted in projects such as Collectie Veenhuizen, VEEN|HUIS|HOTEL, VEENvertellingen and Land&Bouw.
ARCHIVING
The projects are being brought together in an archive at the Province of Drenthe, from which they can be activated again and again. This exhibition, designed by Guus Kusters, is the first physical manifestation of the archive; it was previously on view in Veenhuizen earlier this summer and is now presented during Dutch Design Week.
