From technique to collection
For Dutch Design Week, Atelier Fig brings its practice together in one presentation for the first time. At its centre is Fringe, a technique that emerged from experiments in cutting material with self-developed tools. By continuously testing and refining this approach, new forms and applications emerge. At DDW, Fringe moves from small objects and tableware to furniture and larger works. Experiments, tools, material studies and finished pieces are presented together, making the development behind the collection visible. The exhibition shows how a technique can evolve through research, chance and repetition.
During DDW, Fringe takes on new forms and scales. We present Fringe Tableware 2.0, a further development of our tableware collection, produced in collaboration with Studio Zand in Amersfoort. We will also present our largest work to date: a new cabinet translating the Fringe technique to a larger scale. Together, these works show how an initial material experiment can grow into a versatile collection.
Breakfast at Atelier Fig.
During the first DDW weekend, we invite visitors to start their day right in the middle of the exhibition. On Saturday 17 and Sunday 18 October, we host Breakfast at Atelier Fig: an extensive breakfast by Atelier Nori, coffee and latte art by Ruben, and a personal tour with Gijs. A relaxed morning to discover not only the work, but also the people, stories and experiments behind it.
