A raw aluminum billet — stock material intended for extrusion, destined to disappear into a die — is used here unaltered, as the column of a small table. Its original state becomes the final form.

Precise Intervention

One exact operation breaks that rule: a slot turned into the billet on the lathe, precise enough that a wooden tabletop — cut with a hole just over a half-circle — clamps snugly around it. That precision matters precisely because a billet was never meant to hold it; it's rough stock by nature, never intended for such exactness. Raw material becomes final quality.
