From Fast Furniture to Slow Furniture
Upholstered furniture is often discarded when fabric wears out, even though the structure is still good for many years. Ciclo explores how design can extend the lifespan of furniture by transforming upholstery from a fixed component, into a replaceable and maintainable component.
Inspired by the principle of an embroidery hoop, the upholstery is tensioned around a comfortable cushion and secured without gluing or permanent fixings. This allows the fabric to be easily removed, cleaned, repaired or replaced, while preserving the chair’s comfort and identity.
Ciclo encourages a different relationship between people and their furniture. By integrating personalisation into the design process, the chair is no longer defined by a single moment of use, but becomes an evolving and customisable object that grows with its user.
Green Concept Award '26
Ciclo received the Green Concept Award 2026 for Interior & Lifestyle.
The jury statement: "An outstanding design for a lounge chair that rethinks upholstery through a glue- and staple-free system, inspired by embroidery hoops. A modular construction allows to easily swap, wash, repair and replace fabrics."
