Common Ground uses immersive XR art & design to temporarily transform Eindhoven into a civic commons where residents, makers, and professionals can practice well-being, collaboration, and urban self-reliance together.

Vision and concept

Common Ground starts from the conviction that cities are only future-proof when residents feel a sense of ownership over their urban systems (well-being, energy, space, collaboration). The project develops immersive XR artworks that are not aimed at spectacle or individual experience, but at collective experience, maintenance, and negotiation.

The artistic vision positions XR as cultural infrastructure: a temporary space in which citizens can practice well-being, responsibility, and autonomy together. The project aligns with contemporary developments in immersive art but distinguishes itself through a radically community-oriented and well-being-based approach.

We are building on the successful presentation “Solarpunk” during DDW 2025 at Stadslab.
Now we are going to deepen and engage in activating programming with new and contemporary work by makers who know how to touch the public with immersive experiences, contributing to the implementation of the commons philosophy.

About MAD

MAD emergent art center is a non-profit organization dedicated to democratizing technology, initiating interdisciplinary innovation, and fostering social creativity, with artists and scientists acting as catalysts. We unlock new technologies and make them available and creatively applicable for people and society. We do this by facilitating encounters and collaboration, acting as a laboratory, with the technical and creative industries and other domains.
