How can the EU and its individual Member States make better use of the unique competences and skills of the Cultural and Creative Industries (CCIs) to strengthen innovation? How to better include the CCIs in innovation policies to achieve the objectives on sustainable and digital transitions, inclusion, competitiveness and technological sovereignty?

Rooted in open innovation, ekip brings together broad stakeholder groups to co-create and deliver evidence-based policy recommendations. Together, we’re shaping smarter innovation policies for ecosystems where collaborative processes and cross and open innovation are standard practice. We believe this will empower the CCIs to become drivers of innovation, creating a better and brighter future.

If Europe is serious about future-ready innovation ecosystems, CCIs must move to the core. That requires structural change in innovation policies. ekip comes with 5 specific recommendations:

  1. Embed CCIs structurally across EU programmes, horizontally and vertically
  2. Break down policy silos and enhance cross-policy approach.
  3. Redesign innovation ecosystems around Open Innovation, built for how CCIs actually work.
  4. Shift to innovation portfolio-based financing and investment, with intermediaries as orchestrators.
  5. Build a standing foresight engine to keep CCI innovation policy ahead of the curve.

At the ekip final event during DDW expert panelist will discuss the ekip findings and recommendations. Together with creative professionals, policy makers, CCI platform leaders and academics it will be defined how to bring them from policy to action.

Draft agenda:

  • 09:30: Welcome and introduction ekip results
  • 09:40: Keynote speaker: ”How the Cultural and Creative Industries come into play contributing to the competitiveness of Europe?”
  • 10:00: Panel #1 - EU Presidencies have made ambitious CCI manifests. How do we move beyond them and from national strategies into action?
  • 10:45 Panel #2 - Universities as hubs for innovation in local ecosystems. Can they be the drivers to implement innovation policies? How to develop the ekip ecosystem Building Blocks to service the CCIs?
  • 11:30: Panel #3 - New jobs shaping the future of CCIs. How do we leverage insights in emerging new jobs to evolve CCI Communities with new roles and competences?
  • 12:20 Reflections on the day and ekip beyond
