Material, Mindsets & Machines
Design begins in the spaces in between: where the familiar is questioned, where material speaks its own language, and where speculative ideas break open rigid patterns of thought. The Lucerne School of Design, Film and Art (HSLU) presents nine positions from the Bachelor degree programs in Object Design, Textile Design, as well as the Master of Arts in Design. The selection exemplifies an understanding of design that views material research, societal critique, and speculative concepts not as opposites, but as equal tools for shaping the future.
The featured works operate within an exciting spectrum: ranging from tactile, open-ended material exploration to humorously subversive critiques of the established forms and paradigms of everyday objects, through to radically conceptual projects.
As varied as these approaches are in form and medium, their shared attitude is unmistakable: design at HSLU is neither pure aestheticization nor mere problem-solving. It is a critical, sensory, and courageous practice. The graduates question the status quo, explore material qualities with craft precision, and use speculative approaches to create new intellectual spaces for the social and ecological questions of our time.
