Studying Design
As a design university, we see ourselves as a safe space for experimentation, for success and failure, and for learning from these experiences. Design is a hands-on process; every attempt takes you one step further. At BURG, even the unfinished work – the process itself – can be the result. Finished objects are beautiful and help to convey more abstract ideas. But as designers, the foundation of our ability to create something substantial lies in our capacity to engage in an intensive process – not least to get to know ourselves. In our view, this is the very essence of studying design.
About the Exhibition
For this reason, we are dedicating this exhibition to experimentation and to trial and error. We are showcasing projects whose essence is, in a special way, the exploration and testing of new or old technologies and the creation of new connections between them. This is not limited to physical materials alone, but also extends to digital formats and sound. Particularly in the foundational studies of the first and second semesters of our eight-semester BA programme, the focus is primarily on experimentation. However, the students’ research-based approach is also evident right through to their MA graduation projects. You can find projects from all semesters and various study courses at BURG.
