Mission Day | Equal society

Mission Day | Equal society

Friday 23 October

How can we design systems and interactions centred around safety, inclusivity, connection and equality?

During this Mission Day, you will meet designers and professionals working towards a society in which everyone can participate and is valued. Talks, premieres and meet-ups address topics including inclusive systems, accessible services, the relationship between policy and practice and collaboration between designers, industry and public organisations.

Who is it for?

This day is relevant to designers and professionals working in the public sector, education, the cultural and creative industries and the social sector. Policymakers, societal organisations, researchers and companies working on inclusion, safety, equal opportunities or citizen participation will also meet people from other disciplines working towards the same mission.

Four exhibitions from the DDW26 programme that reflect this Mission Day

Who can dine out without worry? Who feels free to talk about sexuality? And who decides which data or voices matter? An equal society requires systems and encounters that make space for everyone. These four projects at Dutch Design Week (DDW) reveal where that space is lacking and how design can expand it.

For people with food allergies, dining out is not always worry-free. With Towards Inclusive Gastronomy, Jillian de Bie explores how eating out can become safer and more enjoyable for them. This project can be found at Klokgebouw (B4).

At Klokgebouw (B4), Imara Stemvers invites visitors to explore queer sexuality and start a conversation about it through the interactive installation hey theys!.

Equality is also about agency. In RE, Gion Berlijn poses an uncomfortable question: would you share your own data to free someone else’s? The installation at Gebouw SFF (B18) makes the power dynamics behind data tangible.

At Table of Power by SHOW NOT SHOW at Kruisruimte (X7), you are invited to take a seat. After all, who gets a place at the table and who decides what is discussed?
