Reclaimed Botanical Art brings together a collective of 5 artists who are rediscovering botanical art. Traditionally rooted in the interplay between science and aesthetics, botanical art has long documented and celebrated plant life, yet it is often reduced to mere illustration. In our research and design, we approach the plant as a source, teacher, and companion, responding to ecological, societal, and cultural circumstances.
Botanical Artists
The collective consists of three students from the Plantaardige vormgeving program at Aeres University of Applied Sciences Wageningen. In addition, two lecturers from the program also participate in this collective. The exhibited work consists of three graduation projects and work by lecturers. All have worked with the plant as a starting point.
Botanical Art
The core of the project is a shift in perspective: viewing the plant not only as material or tool, but also as a source of learning, inspiration and expression. Treating plants as active guides in research and design for innovations yields the results shown here.
