Inspired by the materiality and ephemerality of cosmetics, and ritualistic ancestral practices around the world, the project is a material and performative exploration centered in dress as primarily sensory and transformative act of care, of ourselves as part of nature.

Material exchange and transformation

The work focuses on the transformation that is facilitated on a material level by dressing. It highlights it by focusing more on the expression than the use of a garment. How, when getting dressed, can material bodies engage and what do they create? A dry piece of silk is submerged into a guar gum and glycerin based gel and becomes slob like which then is able to stick to human skin and hydrate it while it also works as a sensorial experience?

In this context, a “garment”, or a material we put in our bodies, which is always inevitably an exchange, has the power to transform us as much as we have the power to transform it.
