Discover Spaces for Futures
The exhibition brings together ten projects addressing the consequences of resource use and imagining new possibilities for sustainable living and production. Works and activities from SBYD’s six working groups – SPACE FOR TECH, SPACE FOR REPAIR, SPACE FOR TEXTILES, SPACE FOR FOOD, SPACE FOR BIOMATERIALS and SPACE FOR NARRATIVES – create opportunities through design to discuss, experiment with and reflect on more sustainable practices.
International Residencies and Folkwang Perspectives
The exhibition also debuts work by four artists and designers-in-residence from Mexico and Ghana, developed during their residencies as part of the SBYD Residency Programme. Joseph Kofi Awumee, Angel Estrada López, Aseye Fiagbe and Emiliano Hernández Sánchez present works ranging from sculpture and film to installations and food design. Two students from Folkwang University of the Arts, Karolina Błońska and Bastian Engel, present projects on materials, manufacturing processes and urban habitats for non-human life.
Around the Kiosk Bike
SBYD’s SPACES host a changing programme of activities around the SBYD Kiosk Bike, including publication release, remanufacturing workshops, and other surprises.

Biolab Kiosk @ SBYD Bike
Folkwang University of the Arts’ Biolab will be running the kiosk at SBYD Bike. Join us for the launch of our new practical guide, “How to Biolab,” which explores how to work with biological materials in art and design. And, weather permitting, stick around for a special surprise!
