TU/ecomotive presents VENTRA at Dutch Design Week, an electric concept car tackling tire and brake emissions. Beyond tailpipes, vehicle weight drives particle pollution. VENTRA solves this with a lightweight chassis and electrostatic capture.

Invisible Pollution

Environmental regulations historically focus on tailpipe exhaust, leaving non-exhaust emissions largely unaddressed. As electric vehicles become heavier due to battery packs, tire abrasion and brake wear increase, making tire dust a major contributor to fine particulate air pollution. VENTRA brings this hidden environmental issue to the forefront, proving that zero tailpipe emissions do not automatically mean zero vehicle pollution.

Integrated Filtration

The core of VENTRA lies in its dual approach: source-level reduction and active capture. Built around a carbon fiber mainframe weighing just 45.5 kg, its total chassis weight is reduced to 135 kg to minimize tire abrasion before it happens. To capture the particles that are generated, the onboard T.R.A.C.E. system uses electrostatic precipitation to draw fine particulate matter directly from the wheels while creating minimal aerodynamic drag.

Visitor Experience

At the exhibition, visitors can explore the sleek, two-seater concept car up close with its doors open. Vibrant orange wheelcaps draw immediate visual attention to the capture zones around the wheels.

About TU/ecomotive Team EM-11

TU/ecomotive is a student team from Eindhoven University of Technology. Every year, we build a new concept car to push the boundaries of sustainable mobility, tackling overlooked environmental challenges in the automotive industry. VENTRA is our 11th vehicle, brought to life by 43 students representing 23 nationalities. Together, we show how practical engineering can reshape the future of transport.
