Eight large-scale installations in public urban spaces encourage new perspectives on social issues and design
From 17 to 25 October, Eindhoven’s public spaces will be transformed into an exhibition featuring eight large-scale design installations and projects during Dutch Design Week (DDW) 2026. The large-scale designs are spread across the city centre and Strijp-S. DDW is collaborating with Bureau Binnenstad Eindhoven to bring this project to life. Today, both parties are renewing their partnership in front of the installation The Consultation Room of the Future, which was previously unveiled on the Markt in Eindhoven. The design works will be freely accessible throughout DDW. From a temporary stops and interactive installations powered by wind and music, to a space shaped like a human intestine: the projects invite visitors to experience design right in the heart of the city and demonstrate how designers approach themes such as inclusion and community life, public space and health.

BLAUPAUSE | Kollektiv Plus X
Blue street furniture that constantly creates a new space
BLAUPAUSE is both a temporary urban architecture and a design object. In a short space of time, three trailers are transformed into blue wooden structures: a stage, a grandstand and a kiosk. They can serve as a meeting place, a space to linger or a backdrop for events, and demonstrate how public space can temporarily take on a different function.

Playing with everyone, without barriers
Huis, een installatie over drempels is a colourful installation on wheels and a safe play area for children with and without disabilities, where they can play and explore together in public spaces. This inclusive and playful space allows children to feel, see, move and discover without any barriers.

The wind as a dynamic design created by people and nature
FIELD is a wind-powered interactive installation comprising turbines on wheels. Visitors can move the structures themselves, thereby creating ever-changing movements and patterns. This installation is an ode to wind energy, in which nature, people and design constantly interact with one another.

Consultation Room of the Future | Atelier Van Lieshout
Venting your feelings in an egg
A 7-metre-tall golden bird perched on a giant egg that serves both as a design object and a consultation room. Inside the egg, the patient can literally and figuratively lose themselves, raising the critical question of whether all these technological innovations, such as AI and robotics, actually do mental health any good.

Waiting for the Bus | Luca Ortmann
Waiting as a valuable part of everyday city life
Yellow steel tubular structures are transformed into a temporary waiting and play area. A familiar spot to sit, lean against and wait. Waiting for the Bus highlights how everyday moments of pause are part of city life and how design can create space for them.

Discover how security varies according to identity
In Blind Spots, visitors move through a three-dimensional web of cameras, screens and voices. By taking part and leaving behind their experiences and responses, they leave traces that cause the installation to change constantly, revealing invisible differences in identity. What if care became part of the city’s infrastructure?

An intestine on the outside, a cleansing experience on the inside
From the outside, the Colonic Cleansing Clinic resembles an intestine and invites you to step inside. How can design improve the current healthcare system, and how can illness, treatment and recovery be integrated into a person’s lifestyle? Van Lieshout’s second design piece forms part of Sanitas Futurum, an exhibition exploring the future of human wellbeing and healthcare.

Electric Grand | Antoon Versteegde + Bart van Dongen
Put your head inside the piano installation
Electric Grand transforms an electric piano into a spatial sound experience. Each note is given its own voice and physical position via loudspeakers suspended within a large bamboo structure. Visitors stand in the centre of the instrument, whilst artist Antoon Versteegde and pianist Bart van Dongen bring the installation to life with improvisations.
