She is a Woman, I am an Animal

I see myself in the cow. I see body parts that look like my own. I see my mother in the cow-mother. I see uninvited hands and needles penetrating their bodies. I see crippled mothers in pain, screaming out just as I would scream. I see myself as a baby on my mother’s chest, loved with the same tenderness with which a cow licks her newborn calf clean. My mother was allowed to love me, the cow will never see her child again after those few hours.

Feminism extends beyond the human species. Both the human- and the cow-women are objectified into "things": a sex object, a milk machine. In the dairy-industry there is no form of autonomy or consent; values that the feminist movement fights for but often overlooks when it comes to non-human animals.

How would you feel as a mother cow, knowing what they are going to do to your child? By blurring the lines between human and cow, I want to show that us humans are animals too. I am done with the way everyone looks away. I am done with how easily the suffering is hidden from view. I am done with all the excuses. Change is needed NOW. Every life taken because of you is one too many.
