Objects point back at us to evaluate our motives & question how we will play our role in the world of things.

A series of objects systematically built from the same restrictions as letter forms. They suggest furniture or objects that in some way or another relate to the human body. The ambiguous function brings into question how we read objects and how we can rewrite our interaction with them.

Language

Language gives us a set of restrictions within which we can manipulate words and letters to achieve new formulations and meanings. Applying these aspects of language to objects unlocks a certain playability. The ambiguous purpose of the objects brings into question how we read objects and how we might rewrite that script of interaction to find new ways of being in relation to objects.

Play

When we think of play we think of a chilDlike freedom where we can do whatever we want. But in practice play is more like work, and more specifically it is like design work: in that it demands undivided attention and a commitment to working within the material limits to find new potential outcomes.

Objectext extends the design process and therefore play out of the studio.. This is in contrast with the design trope of an object being imbued with meaning and prescribed in function and where play has been executed by the designer alone.

Outlook

Objectext is also a matter of perception and ethics, disrupting our passive and conclusive understanding of things from our anthropocentric point of view, where objects are built for convenience and consumption. Rather than disappearing into function the objects point back at us to evaluate our motives /and question how we will play our role in the world of things.
