Since 2014, the Oud Geleerd Jong Gedaan foundation organizes lectures for seniors in i.a. nursing homes, libraries and online. The teachers of 'senior lectures' are students, who discuss a variety of topics with their elderly public. By doing this, we connect generations.
"The activities for seniors are quite limited if you don't like arts and crafts"
"The activities for seniors are quite limited if you don't like arts and crafts," says a participant of a senior-lecture organized by the Oud Geleerd Jong Gedaan foundation. It's something Ilse Nieuwland and Enny van Arkel also discovered when they worked in the elderly care. Two things in particular struck them: the activities organized for the elderly lacked intellectual stimulus and few young people volunteered in nursing homes. Together they founded Oud Geleerd Jong Gedaan (OGJG) in 2014. Their goal? Creating a society in which lifelong learning is the norm for everyone, by having students give lectures in their field of study to the elderly.
