‘Obroni wa wu’ is a collaboration between research-based designer Linda Valkeman, style anthropologist Carmen Hogg and photographer Francis Kokoroko. Obroni wa wu is better known as ‘dead white man’s clothing’.
A phenomenon one can’t miss when in Accra, a phenomenon all three creatives have come across a lot.
With this research the team wants to find answers to the many questions they have on the social impact of clothing donations- a phenomenon the Dutch and Ghanaians have a long history and wide presence of. They combine forces and perspectives to enrich the dialogue on clothing donation by including cross-cultural perspectives.
