JAS&CAL

JAS&CAL investigate the possibilities of weaving with metal yarn in ‘Raamwerk’. Refined and translucent qualities are created by working with this unusual material and specific techniques. The designs interact with the (day) light and the viewer.

Visual traces

Raamwerk plays with the symbolic value of the window. A window has a tension between opening and closing. The ambiguous role of this opening forms the starting point within the development process. The textile designs do not have the function of blocking the light, but rather play with the incidence of light. Transparency and reflection ensure an interaction with the viewer. Substantive details are made clear as the open structures intentionally provide insight into the weave construction. Visual cues that invite the observer to an attentive look. In the evening, the designs turn into walls and reflect light from the space, enhancing their illuminating character. The research is realized in collaboration with TextielLab Tilburg and partly made possible by the Creative Industries Fund NL.
