Generative AI relies on relentless scraping, drawing from vast archives of user-generated content and other people's work to copy and regenerate any design.

SUPERLOCAL brings this continuous extraction process out of the server room and onto the exhibition floor. Initiated by Fontys InnovationLab alongside Humber Polytechnic and Fontys ArtCode, this project treats the entirety of Dutch Design Week as a raw dataset waiting to be harvested.

Operating without filter or consent, students crawl through the exhibitions to scan everything they encounter: from chairs and ceramics to the visitors themselves.
The collected data is processed at SUPERLOCAL, functioning as a tiny supermarket/gift shop. Here, visitors can browse the wares and maybe even buy cheap knockoff designs generated directly.

By making design theft visible, commercialized, and immediate, the project asks a provocative question: if we get upset seeing our work stolen in person, how do we respond to the invisible, mass exploitation performed daily by large tech companies?
