Citiez 0.1
Citiez 0.1 marks the beginning of the Citiez Collection, translating the layered character of Amsterdam into a sculptural floor light. Inspired by the rhythm of the city’s 17th-century canal houses, its form distils the proportions, rooftops and weathered materials of Amsterdam’s architecture into a calm yet distinctive composition.
The design establishes the collection’s core principles: balance, material weight and spatial sensitivity. An adjustable, dimmable shade allows the light to respond precisely to its surroundings, while an optional rotating hinge introduces movement and flexibility.
Material transformation is central to the design. Leftover metals from local workshops are reworked alongside oxidized steel, brushed brass, shaped metal and concrete. Recycled concrete is incorporated into the base, preserving traces of previous use. Through oxidation, texture and hand-finishing, Citiez 0.1 combines craftsmanship with precision, creating an object that is both functional and sculptural. A quiet interpretation of Amsterdam where time, material and craftsmanship converge.
Citiez 0.3
Citiez 0.3 is a pendant light and sculptural object by Niels Stoeltie, inspired by the architectural character of Amsterdam. Part of the Citiez Collection, it draws from the city’s 17th-century canal houses, translating their distinctive facades and rooftops into a contemporary form. The brass rooftops reference Amsterdam’s iconic silhouettes, while a controlled oxidation process gives the metal a weathered, time-worn character.
Reuse is central to the design. The concrete suspension incorporates recycled construction debris sourced from Amsterdam, quite literally embedding a fragment of the city into the object and connecting past with present.
Citiez 0.3 is handmade using bending, welding, milling and turning techniques. The concrete casing provides structural support while housing the LED components. Through the contrast between raw and refined materials, light and shadow, and traditional craftsmanship and contemporary design, Citiez 0.3 offers a poetic interpretation of Amsterdam.
