Living technology
JiTiBa uses microalgae contained in small algaepearls to remove nutrients such as phosphate and nitrogen from wastewater. This has been demonstrated in laboratory and prototype tests, including tests with real wastewater. The algaepearls keep the algae together and make them easier to use in technical systems. At DDW, we present the Algaefyer MK.2 alongside 3D models of larger systems. The exhibition shows how JiTiBa is moving from a biological treatment principle to practical equipment: designing the water flow, controls, maintenance access, modular parts and overall form of the machine. Visitors can see both the current prototype and the direction of future systems. The focus is on making algae-based water treatment easier to understand, operate, build and eventually scale for use at existing water-treatment sites.
