Every day, we move through a world that has been designed. What we don't always see are the expectations that shape that design: ideas about how we want to live, work, care, consume and live together. They form the unwritten rules of our society. And in doing so, they also shape our future.
But old expectations and patterns don't always fit the world we live in today. They can hold us back. At a time of social tensions, climate crisis and growing inequality, they can slow down change or even stand in its way. If we want a different future, we need to rethink not only our systems, but also the ideas behind them.
In Designing Society, designers, thinkers and changemakers explore how things could be different. They work together to break through deeply rooted patterns. This creates moments of change: perspectives and experiments that open up new possibilities.
This exhibition invites you to look again. What do you take for granted? Which expectations would you dare to let go of? Because what has been designed, can be redesigned. And what seems set in stone today, can be done differently tomorrow.

About Dutch Design Foundation i.s.m. ActiZ, GGD Brabant, Heijmans, Pilot duurzame CAO Rijk, PONT, PWN, VVT Platform Zuidoost-Brabant, Un/School
Dutch Design Foundation is convinced that designers provide an essential contribution to making our world a more beautiful, sustainable and social place. We are optimistic but we also recognise the current issues and how serious they are. We believe in the forward thinking and action of designers and create space for this.
