How do we make people to be attached to products?

KKEKK presents a handbag series inspired by human hands and a series of AMO earrings.

The handbag series began with imagining parts of human body being mutated. At first I just thought, what if our hands got bigger? Then I thought it’d be funny to carry around giant hands. To make it friendlier, I made handbags like how plush dolls are made (stuffing cotton inside the fabric). It’s practical as you can put small things in the palm and finger spaces. Interesting thing about this product is that it doesn’t just stop at being a bag, but can be used in various ways. For example, someone put their hand in the bag and use the giant hand to wave or shake hands. For the earring series, I made a little friend (AMO) wearable as earrings. I think artificial objects can have relationships with people. They are made with artificial materials, but I designed them to be friendly so people can be attached to them. AMO earrings are lovely because they’re small and you can wear them all the time. I always have small leftover pieces as I mainly work with fabrics. So I can make the earrings with those, which is economically efficient. During this year’s DDW, you can find these works in Sectie C and try on the products in the installation area.

over KKEKK

KKEKK is an artist and a designer based in Seoul, South Korea. She demonstrates the process of expanding the range of senses by materializing suppressed fantasy using plastic art and installations. Through exhibitions, she shows her work which fluctuates between fantasy and reality. With her own unique imagination, KKEKK materializes ‘paracosm’ (a specific fantasy world), continuing to try to stimulate the senses of visitors and provoke connection with each other.
