Raw Willow transforms branches and bio resin into unique, organic furniture

Raw Willow is a design style expressed through furniture and home accessories that stand out because of their natural, organic appearance combined with clean, matte bio resin that seamlessly connects every element. These objects are created by combining different types of wooden branches with bio resin. During the finishing process, the natural grain and textures of the wood are revealed, creating unique patterns that make every piece one of a kind.

What began as an exploration of willow branches and raw bio resin giving rise to the name Raw Willow has evolved through extensive research into combining bio resin with other types of branches, including hazel, birch, chestnut, bamboo, and many more. The possibilities are endless, and every material combination produces its own distinctive pattern, creating a playful dialogue between nature and design.

The clean, geometric lines of the bio resin contrast beautifully with the organic grain and textures of the wood, bringing these two materials together in harmony. The resulting designs are not only functional objects and striking centrepieces within a living space, but also reflect a sustainable and biologically driven approach

The material

The materials used in these designs are entirely natural and are considered biological waste. Tree branches are normally pruned and either shredded to produce engineered wood panels or compost, or simply burned as waste. With Raw Willow, I aim to preserve these raw branches and their natural textures, allowing their character to become an essential part of each design.

Combined with bio resin, these objects become highly sustainable. But why is this casting material called bio resin? The answer lies in its origin. Bio resin is produced from biological waste generated by our food chain. It is made from materials such as bagasse, the fibrous by-product left after extracting juice from sugarcane. When combined with natural curing agents, such as tree-derived acids, the material hardens into a durable resin that can be combined with natural materials like wooden branches.

Compared to conventional casting materials such as epoxy, silicone, and similar resins, bio resin is more affordable, safer to work with, and significantly more environmentally friendly. As a result, every Raw Willow design is not only sustainable, but also completely unique, bringing natural patterns and character
