During DDW we continue our research with a living lab & expo: exploring possibilities with the fibres: fique, jute and the needle felting technique.

Retrace

Millions of coffee bags arrive in Europe every year. Those with coffee from America are made of fique, an agave plant from the Andes. Those with coffee from Asia or Africa are made of jute, mainly from India and Bangladesh. At the end of their unique function, these bags/fibres meet in Europe and become a “waste stream” of high quality natural material, most notably in cities. Retracing the coffee bag is a research design group that explores the possibilities of reusing the natural fibres fique & jute after the coffee bag has become “waste”. The exhibition inside Lucifer Roastery will show our first part of research and exploration on how to upcycle jute & fique coffee bags. This week we continue our research with a living lab: here we explore even more possibilities of natural fibres fique and jute that are harvested from coffee bags. The exhibition will take place at Lucifer Roastery they are daily open (also for coffee) during DDW. Retracing the coffee bag is a collaboration between designers Rosana Escobar, Alexander Marinus & Sanne Muiser
