Grand Projects in Public Spaces

25 September 2024

Rayonne - © Marion Aeby
These grand presentations, large-scale objects, and unique installations are something you simply cannot miss during Dutch Design Week! An Open Call was issued in March, inviting designers to submit their grand projects. Below is the final selection of eleven projects showcased from 19 to 27 October in the most prominent squares and locations in Eindhoven.

Rayonne

Rayonne is a textile installation at Ketelhuisplein; somewhere between a tent, a big top and a shade cloth.

POND

Power Of Nature-based Design is an outdoor light installation at Van Abbemuseum that gives water a voice by measuring her health and translating her well-being into magical color projections after sunset.

Temple of Peace

An imposing installation of eighty unique flags at Ketelhuisplein, created by eighty teams of recent graduates of art & design academies and refugees, honouring the theme of ‘peace’.

Megalith

A sculptural installation at Heuvel that examines the link between physical objects and electronic phenomena in performative rituals.

We (don't) Want Wind

The windmill is an icon of Dutch identity, but modern wind turbines provoke much resistance. Explore at Ketelhuisplein how we can learn from the past and give modern wind turbines a more positive image.

Outpost for Unreal Institutions

The Outpost for Unreal Institutions at Stationsplein seeks to map the field of “co-opting institutions”, exploring how these projects hijack the rituals and authority of existing institutions to cultivate ambiguous, transitional spaces to reshape our collective futures.

Inkijkjes in the Energietransitie (‘Insights into the Energy Transition’)

All over the Netherlands you can find buildings that get their energy in innovative ways. Glimpses into Green Energy at Ketelhuisplein make these new systems visible for passers-by.

Eigengrau Pavilion

In complete darkness, you enter the Eigengrau Pavilion in Koelhuis, where light, mist, sound, and movement take you on a mystical journey.

Krijt-je-rijk

A sidewalk chalk so big that it makes all children's hearts beat out of their chests, but also needs some children and adults to get moving. Come to 18 Septemberplein and draw!

Wind Knitting Factory

Under the wind-canopy at the Nieuwe Emmasingel, you can purchase Wind Knitted Scarfs whilst viewing them being made.

Sex in the City

Enter the future! This speculative installation at Stadhuisplein is an insight to one of the many possible futures ahead.
