Designer Merel Karhof presents 'Wind Knitting Factory' during Dutch Design Week. Under the wind-canopy at the Nieuwe Emmasingel she will show her “Fashion Windfarm” consisting of two knitting machines.

Growing Knitwear

‘Wind Knitting Factory’ is a wind powered knitting machine, which knits scarves. At the top of the Wind Knitting Factory a large cone of wool feeds slowly into the machine. As the wool is knitted, it steadily grows and extends downwards, where people can see it becoming longer and longer. Occasionally the knitwear gets ‘harvested’ and transformed into scarves, which are labelled with the time and day the wind created the knit. This mobile wind factory illustrates a production process and visualizes what you can sustainably produce with the present urban wind.
