Programme Dutch Design Week Now Live

Picture This: Let’s turn the tide! Participants of Dutch Design Week 2023 (DDW23) present new schools of thought and exceptional powers of visualisation. From 21 to 29 October, design city Eindhoven will transform into an international hub for fresh visions and the much-needed transitions for a better future.

Programme Narratives

DDW23 introduces ten brand new programme narratives that guide visitors and designers to find each other during the week. The immense variety of activities, events and exhibitions taking place in Eindhoven are all plotted along these lines. The goal is to help designers, collaborative partners, policymakers, trendwatchers, knowledge institutes, creatives and every other visitor to find the topics and perspectives they are most interested in.

MISSIONS - Major challenges designers are working.

  • ACHIEVING OUR EQUAL SOCIETY
    To achieve equality in society, we must (re)design systems and interactions that value everyone. Safety, inclusiveness and connection are key here.
    • Centre | Van Abbemuseum - The space between us
      Who or what determines the function of an object? Van Abbemuseum’s exhibition questions the function of design and the role of the museum.
  • BOOSTING OUR HEALTH & WELL-BEING
    Designs that structurally improve our quality of life and health – from the food we eat to healthcare and personal well-being.
    • Centre | Albert van Abbehuis - A Bite of Void
      This exhibition invites visitors to contemplate the potholes of their lives and what a ‘better future’ would truly look like.
  • CHALLENGING OUR DIGITAL FUTURE
    Explorations from virtual worlds to artificial intelligence and from global platforms to individual experiences.
    • Strijp-S | Manifestations - Art Tech Fun AI Robots eGirls
      Join Manifestations online and offline for an eccentric examination of the (mis)matches between people and technology.
  • CREATING OUR LIVING ENVIRONMENT
    Designing our living environment, mobility and the materials we use to create them goes hand-in-hand with shaping our own quality of life.
    • Hallenweg | Blank Fish - Gas to Green
      Blank Fish presents a green vision of electric cars and defunct gas stations repurposed as urban farms.
  • ENABLING OUR THRIVING PLANET
    For a healthy planet, design must enhance the power of nature, or at the very least not stand in its way.
    • Station | Land-Ally, de Dommel - Will Water Want
      Investigating the will and voice of the Dommel river through a series of objects interacting with the flow of water.

DESIGN PERSPECTIVES - Ways of looking at the design profession.

  • INDEPENDENT & CRITICAL DESIGN
    Makers and inventors of autonomous and critical work which often reflects on the design profession itself and defy definitions.

      Zalán Szakács invites you to descend into the basement of Koelhuis Eindhoven for an embodied experience on the intersection of mysticism and technology.
  • PRODUCT & CRAFT DESIGN
    Everything we use is designed. All these products and materials demand the most diverse methods, skills and knowledge.

      This year, Kiki & Joost showcase the poetic beauty of creation and the dynamic nature of works in progress.
  • SERVICE & INNOVATIVE DESIGN
    Lightning-fast digital and technological developments raise all kinds of questions. Designers answer these questions with groundbreaking concepts and concrete applications.

      Nienke Helder and Ohnut share their design and research into pelvic health.
  • SIGNATURE & COLLECTIBLE DESIGN
    Artistic exploration and individual expression, translated into objects and other renditions that are poetic or conceptual in nature.
    • Woensel | De GRRRage - In the Works →
      A collection of experiments from the workshop of Atelier Max Lipsey in the brand-new area of Woensel. A new hub of signature and collectible design.
  • SPECULATIVE & SOCIAL DESIGN
    Exploring unexpected thought processes and taking an approach off the beaten track. This takes shape in research by design or the development of (social) interventions.

      Next Nature presents an exhibition on the future of food and how we can feed 10 billion people in 2050.
