Do you also find it scary to order bread at a foreign bakery? Migrant workers experience that feeling of uncertainty every day. Spiekkleding offers them support in learning and speaking the Dutch language.
Bridging the gap between the classroom and the real world
In the Netherlands, many good language classes are offered to immigrant workers. But learning a language in class is very different from applying it in the real world. This makes many people uncertain. "How exactly was that sentence again?" "Am I pronouncing it correctly?" Nor does it help that many Dutch people automatically switch to English in a conversation with a non-native speaker. Spiekkleding is a bridge between language class and the real world. It helps and encourages migrant workers to learn Dutch and practice speaking. The project was created within a collaboration between the design firms Inktvisie and DesignDrone, and the Ministry of Social Affairs and Employment.
