WRAP IT is a wallpainting, designed and executed by artist Marije Vermeulen. The new collab with APTUM has been woven into it. The design of the mural is based on the shapes and proportions that form the monumental entree of the Peelcentrale, the home base of APTUM.
MARIJE VERMEULEN
Marije Vermeulen makes paintings, installations, wallpaintings and interiors.
Lucidity, color and energy are important elements in her work.
She graduated in Fine Art after she studied Fashion Design and classical furniture making.
The clean-cut lines, divisions, forms and color combinations find their origin in reality, which is transformed and evolved through an elaborate sketching process.
This process consists of strict actions like taking measurements, halving, tilting and repeating.
Collecting lots of possibilities and deducting them back to just one option is the game.
Together with the associative use of color and playful variations, Vermeulen creates both unpredictable and solid works. Vermeulen feels at ease, makes her works in museums and art- initiatives as well as in public spaces, schools and bars.
MARIJE VERMEULEN X APTUM
The collab started after a spontaneous conversation at OBJECT in Rotterdam. APTUM has this impressive series of collabs and Marije Vermeulen liked the idea of integrating lighting in her murals and installations. Because of working with standard sizes and measurements it looked like a good match to make a standard product that would fit these sizes. Vermeulen works with these 10 centimeters lines when making a mural, so if the lighting element would be these 10 centimeters it would fit nicely. The Ribbon as we’ve named the object can be painted and becomes a part of the mural. Striping patterns in a 45 degree angle also appear regularly in the works of Vermeulen, that’s why we chose to let the Ribbon be like that as wel.
The Ribbon at the Peelcentrale
During the Dutch Design Week you can visit the Peelcentrale and take a look at a smashing example of the work of Marije Vermeulen. She made a big wallpainting in which she integrated the new Ribbon several times. This wallpainting is made in the monumental entrée of the building in which APTUM lives and works. The Ribbon weaves through the mural and sheds new light on the possibilities of a wallpainting. The Ribbon will also be shown as a solo lighting object.
Marije Vermeulen and APTUM( designduo Tineke & Nathan) will be regularly present to tell you more about the design and process.
