OFFSITE blends aesthetic and pragmatic industrial principles to create objects from reclaimed, repaired, and stock materials. They open their workspace with equipment, prototypes, models and their methodology - and the questions they have as two young designers building their business.
OFFSITE Open Studio
During their open studio event, you'll have the chance to dive into OFFSITE's design process, from the initial spark of a concept to the final product. They will take you through their methodologies, exploring the visual references and inspirations that shape their work. You'll see repaired objects that challenge conventional design norms, pushing the boundaries of what sustainable design can achieve.
They also want to engage with you on the challenges that young designers and start-ups face when striving to work sustainably. What does it truly mean to design in a sustainable manner, and how can inherent complexities be navigated? Both practically and in the grey areas of working with existing materials and objects.
The open studio is located in Hal G, Sectie C. Additionally, OFFSITE has a separate exhibition space in the Body Building, titled "Reclaimed and Stock Objects - Furniture Launch" where they showcase their latest pieces.
About OFFSITE
Inspired by the robust materials, aesthetics, and design principles of industrial machines, OFFSITE transfers the aesthetics and pragmatics of industry to the consumer market. OFFSITE’s objects are maintainable, easy to repair, and designed to be disassembled. They age well and develop a patina, becoming cherished pieces to pass down through generations. Encouraging resale and a second-hand market.
Ultimately, OFFSITE creates furniture akin to tools for the home. Industrial goods have a distinctive aesthetic—sturdy materials, bolts, visible welds, and directional colours. The pieces are closer to workbenches and tools than to museum pieces and sculptures. They are meant to be used, cherished, and worn in.
