PHASER - and other data-art-fashion projects

Have you ever wondered what happened with your data? We tell stories with it.

Flora Miranda presents scalable design tools that materialize data into products that tell stories and evoke emotions. She connects digital and physical worlds by shifting between digital and physical crafts. Each influencing the other throughout the design process.

Tactile data visualizations

At Flora Miranda we blend digital innovation with material crafts. We explore how storytelling, material experimentation and technology can push the boundaries of traditional design. We combine cutting-technologies like 3D scanning, printing, machine learning, and generative design with traditional techniques such as weaving, knitting, tufting, and embroidery to create tactile data visualizations. Miranda puts human experiences and preferences at the center of her designs. This makes each piece unique, standing out from the mass-manufactured products we see today.

Coming from a fashion background, Flora Miranda specializes in generative design that transforms data into unique textiles, garments and beyond. Working with clients like KBC, Ballet Of Difference or FFG, the data-visualization outputs are versatile, from dance and art applications to everyday wear. Showing a wide range of what is possible with data-driven design.

Phaser: Visualizing sound into fashion

Phaser transforms music frequencies into phygital garments, blending fashion, data visualization, sound, and performance.

With Alva Noto’s composition "Xerrox Vol.2," Miranda translates sound frequencies into 66 visual designs for both digital and physical garments.

The interactive Phaser web tool allows users to explore the digital-first garments before ordering them physically. Through a simple web interface, users can pause the visual at any moment to order their digital or physical garment. The visuals are also translated into printed scarves, forming the basis for Ballet Of Difference dance costumes, with each dancer wearing a scarf based on one minute of frequency.

Phaser extends into phygital haute couture, with Miranda crafting intricate pleated textile techniques to recreate digital designs as couture garments.

Phaser pioneers data-driven design in fashion, introducing an era where garments adapt to individual preferences, promoting sustainability and inclusivity. Miranda envisions a future where computer systems craft unique, personalized designs—where technology and beauty converge.
